Early printing ("thirty-ninth to forty-third thousand"), published the same year as the first. Maroon cloth gilt. Rubbing to joints, spine ends, edges of covers; slight wear to outer corners and foot of spine; endpapes, first and last leaves, and page edges tanned; occasional light foxing and soiling; a good, sound copy, no owner names. One of four books she wrote in 1896, a tale of a successful woman writer abused and oppressed by her aristocratic parasitic husband, based on Corelli's relationship with her step-brother Eric. Corelli herself was probably as lesbian, but Eric was still a cad in actuality.
