DALRYMPLE, Leona (Mrs. C. Acton Wilson, b.1884)
DIANE OF THE GREEN VAN. Illustrations by Reginald Birch
Toronto: Copp, Clark, 1914.
ADVANCE READING COPY. pp 441, . Octavo, green card covers with Copp Clark cover label designating this a "Complimentary Advance Copy of the $10,000.00 Prize Novel...To Be Published on March 7...". This advance issue did not contain the four Reginald Birch plates that appear in the published edition. On the half title leaf, beneath "Advance copy, submitted for review. Not for sale or publication", is a printed Copp Clark label covering the Reilly & Britton imprint; the title page likewise is altered with a label. Front cover has a tiny chip and short read stain to lower outer corner; corner crease to rear cover; outer corners of text a little splayed; VG otherwise, clean tight and unworn. A novel about travelling to South Florida via a gypsy-type caravan. Everglades, Seminole Indians. The judges for the prize were S.S. McClure, Ida M. Tarbell, and George N. Madison. This Canadian advance issue is rare; in fact, I wouldn't be hugely surprised if there were no other extant copies.
