The cover illustrations, endpapers, and decorative title page border were designed by important Canadian painter J.E.H. MacDonald (Group of Seven). His son Thoreau, an excellent artist in his own right, did some of the lettering. Edison E6.

xxix, 203 pp + frontispiece portrait with tissue guard. Blue-grey cloth boards with illustration of trilliums and pinecones in green, bright gilt stamped titles to cover and spine, endpapers illustrated with green garland-framed poetry. Yellowing to page edges, else fine. Cream dust jacket has partial splits to flap folds; light soiling to panels; spine lightly darkened, with splits to spine folds internally repaired with brown paper tape; in all, a good example, but still respectable in appearance. Inscribed on front blank: "To Maud Hathaway with all good wishes from R.H. Hathaway, Christmas 1921".Printed label on the half-title states "Ernest J. Hathaway. Presented by Maud (Snarr) Hathaway". Very attractive cover, jacket, and endpaper illustration by J.E.H. MacDonald, with some lettering by Thoreau MacDonald. Edison E1. I presume this copy was Hathaway's gift to his wife. BAL 2731.
